One of our visionary state representatives, Rep. Aaron Lieberman, has agreed to sponsor a Repeal 1350 bill in the State Legislature.

Please email him at alieberman@azleg.gov and let him know that you enthusiastically support his efforts.

Please read below to understand more fully why this law is so detrimental to our communities, and how it could have a dramatic negative effect on your quality of life and the value of your home.

Dear Arizona Residents,

This is Greg Hague.  I’ve been a real estate broker for over 40 years, and I am an attorney as well.  This is the first time I have taken a public political position. This issue is so important, that I felt compelled to take a stand.

Here Are The Facts:

  • In 2016 the Arizona legislature passed a law which prohibits Arizona communities from regulating short-term rentals like Airbnbs.
  • No other state in the country has such a law.
  • Since the law was enacted, communities like Sedona have been flooded with investors buying residential homes on quiet streets and essentially turning them into motels.
  •  These “neighborhood motels” have no professional staff, no oversight, and the owners usually don’t even live there.
  • The renters are often in for 1-3 nights, here to have fun, stay up late and party. (nothing wrong with that, unless you live next door)
  • In Sedona, it’s estimated that about 1 in 5 homes is now an Airbnb daily rental. That means that every homeowner on every street in Sedona is likely to have a transient neighborhood motel within 2 homes on either side or across the street.

I recently co-hosted a prime-time real estate special on NBC and addressed this issue. Below is a video of that segment.

My Opinion – The state has no right to prohibit our communities from regulating neighborhood motels that essentially convert residential areas into commercial business zones.

If you agree that the regulation of neighborhoods and zoning should be a community issue (the way it has always been in Arizona, and the way it is in every other state in the country), then please sign this petition to repeal SB-1350.
